Eviction Defense Class August 19th!

Rising rents got you stressed out?
Feeling squeezed by gentrification?
Is your landlord refusing to make necessary repairs?

You need to come to this event!

I work as a registered legal document assistant and I provide low cost legal self help services to tenants in the Los Angeles area.

Lately, I’ve been overwhelmed by requests for landlord-tenant help so I’m hosting a series of free workshops across LA County in order to help as many people as possible.

The event will be hosted in the local/home office of The Law Office of Jerry J. Kaufman. There’s a small building in the back, and it will be marked appropriately with signs on the day of the event. There’s plenty of street parking in this neighborhood.

Please read the FAQ and then post additional questions in the comments.

My First Campaign Video

Last week, I worked with Mike Hammari to create my first campaign videos. I’m very pleased with the results and we’ll be generating more campaign videos soon.

This video shares what inspired me to run for Congress, provides details about the special election taking place on April 4th, and what you can do to help my campaign gain more visibility.

The 34th District’s special election is coming up quickly, so please like and share video as much as you can, and stay tuned for more updates!

Angela McArdle for Congress – Campaign Video

Candidate Statement

I submitted my Candidate Statement to the County Recorder’s Election office Thursday, February 9th. This statement will be printed next to my name in the ballot:

“Because iron-clad protection is built into the Constitution, there’s no reason to fear the current Federal Administration. Angela McArdle knows the 10th Amendment protects California from unconstitutional Federal bullying, and she knows how to use it.

Since enforcing the 10th Amendment is almost considered taboo (even though it has been used to legalize cannabis and same-sex marriage in many States), most candidates won’t even consider using it to resist federal tyranny, support secession, or call out both major parties for the 16 year long war in the Middle East.

Before throwing your vote away on another candidate who bends to the will of Washington power-players & lobbyists, consider electing someone who believes government’s place is to serve its people, not a get-rich quick scheme to serve corporate special interests.

We need Angela McArdle. Now, with her leadership, California can guard itself from a dictatorial Federal government and underhanded special interests, while flourishing under its own local governance. Working in the legal profession, Angela’s been defending Angelenos from wrongful foreclosures and evictions for over seven years. Angela fights the oppressive laws that force people into homelessness, and crushes predatory lenders and slumlords with the power of the law.  The district needs a representative who isn’t afraid to strip the federal government of its unlawful powers. Healthcare, immigrant communities, job growth, civil rights and our environment can all be protected on a state level by a candidate like Angela who knows the Constitution.  Vote for Angela. She isn’t afraid of the federal government.”

Fellow Californians,

We have serious problems in America right now!

Our rights as citizens are being ripped away by a runaway federal government, people are terrified, and our country is divided by two political parties that serve the same master.

Most people don’t know that there’s an easy way to protect our political needs at the state level.

Each election cycle, we’re desperate for the new President to solve all of our problems, but most don’t realize they’re just spinning their wheels.

Yet… there’s a solution within our reach!

And it’s so “brain-dead simple” you might not even believe it’s true.

I promise you this: the solution is real as I will show you SOLID PROOF of how citizens have used it in the past.

Look at these stunning successes:

* “Right to Try” Laws

A noticeably bipartisan effort in 24 or more states, “Right to Try” laws authorize patients with serious or immediate life threatening illnesses to try experimental drugs without waiting for FDA approval.

* Same Sex Marriage

Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa became the first states to pass laws legalizing same sex marriage, and paving the way for its eventual federal recognition.

* Cannabis Legalization

26 states have now passed laws legalizing medical cannabis, in spite of the federal government’s view that cannabis is a Schedule 1 drug. In fact, 3 Presidential candidates in the last election all felt that cannabis should be decriminalized.

* License Plate Data Collection

Minnesota, New Hampshire, Utah and Arkansas have all passed laws restricting the federal government’s access to their license plate tracking data, and these states have passed laws limiting the use of license plate trackers, in general.

* Militarization of the Police

In 2015, New Jersey passed a law requiring law enforcement to obtain permission from local government before obtaining any military equipment from the federal government.

This is part of that famous system of checks and balances they teach you about in school — but never fully explain.

The founders left specific protections in the form of checks and balances so the states (and their citizens) couldn’t be overrun by a tyrannical, federal government or a rabid, power-crazed president.

One of the most powerful checks on the federal government is called the 10th Amendment. Here in California, you’ve already seen evidence of the 10th Amendment in use and didn’t even know it:

* Same Sex Marriage

California was the 4th state to legalize same sex marriage and helped to pave the way for federal recognition of same sex marriage.

* Cannabis Legalization

In 1996, California passed Proposition 215, which legalized cannabis for medical use. In 2016, California passed the Adult Use of Medical Marijuana Act, and legalized recreational cannabis use.

The 10th Amendment has successfully blocked federal overreach in many other states as well.

By upholding the 10th Amendment, and the other rights given to us in the Bill of Rights, the people can take their nation back from the hands of the fatally corrupt federal government.

That’s why I’m committed to upholding the 10th Amendment and States’ Rights. After being elected as a member of Congress, I promise to uphold the 10th Amendment in each congressional vote, to hold our new President accountable to his constitutional duties, and to protect and serve the people of California.

Now, in order to protect your rights, I need your help!

Launching a real campaign can be quite costly when you’re not in the pocket of special interests … and that’s why I am reaching out to you…

I’m already out of pocket several hundred dollars — and that’s just a drop in the bucket compared to what a half-way decent campaign costs. I need $1,700 to file my registration, $5,000 for my candidate statement and additional cash to pay for marketing, advertising, campaign consulting and extra sets of helping hands.

Please consider a donation to my campaign so I can fight for our rights in Washington and protect the people of California! Even $10 or $20 helps, as many hands make light work.

Thanks for reading!

Your hopeful representative,

Angela McArdle
Libertarian Nominee for the 34th Congressional District

Spying, Torture, and Assassination Courtesy of Your Government

Do you find it nauseating that US foreign policy encourages people to live in perpetual fear of shadowy, phantom enemies while our government simultaneously participates in spying, torture and assassination?

After 9/11, the advocates of imperialist foreign policy stirred up enough fear and dread in the minds of Americans that our general public submitted to outrageous policies they would have otherwise rebelled against. Fear tactics successfully enabled overreaching domestic surveillance and a complete loss of privacy through the NSA and Orwellian legislation like the Patriot Act.

But the loss of privacy is not the only thing this era of fear ushered in. Our fearful general public shamefully allowed our government to participate in what would otherwise be regarded as cruel, inhumane means of dealing with our enemies. The use of torture to extract information and cooperation from our enemies is now tacitly accepted by a large number of otherwise reasonable Americans. Torture is expressly forbidden in the Constitution, 18 US Code Section 2441, and the Geneva Convention, but torture is allowed under The Patriot Act.

Are you disgusted yet? It gets worse.

Of course, we are told torture is necessary in the war against terrorism. The term “war on terror” is used to trick people into thinking that all citizens must cooperate and sacrifice their liberties to “win” this war. Even though these violations were fully endorsed by the Obama administration, they were first introduced and used by the Bush administration. The war on terror is a bipartisan effort. Now, our country has established  indefinite detention without charges or a right to counsel as precedent for anyone in the world, including an American citizen, who is declared to be an “enemy combatant.” The Obama administration argues this is necessary to keep all Americans safe.

Could anything be worse than indefinite detention and torture?

Possibly.

Did you know that for years, our government has used assassination to facilitate “regime change” around the world? Prior to February 3, 2010, no one would admit that a policy on assassination existed, but on February 3, 2010, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Dennis Blair, told the House Intelligence Committee that such a policy did, in fact, exist. He remarked, “Being a U.S. citizen will not spare an American from getting assassinated by military or intelligence operatives.” Assassination policy has been expanded from its humble origins in regime change. According to Dennis Blair, the only justification our government needs to assassinate someone is that a person be declared a “threat” by a single government official. No criminal charges or plans to commit a crime are needed.

How can we tolerate this?

Our government repeatedly argues that post–9/11 danger demands different, stronger laws in order to keep us all safe. Everyone is subjected to surveillance but our government reassures us that “only a few” Americans are targeted for torture and assassination. Remember, tyranny always begins with the oppression of unpopular minorities. The individuals targeted for torture and assassination by our government are “suspects,” not convicted criminals. Most of these suspects have never been officially charged with a crime.  It is crucial that even the admittedly guilty have their day in court in order to preserve all American citizens’ rights to a trial by jury.  Every day, our rights are further eroded by the “war on terror”  while our government exacts terror upon its own people. Congress and the courts are a disgrace if they do nothing to stop the targeting of American citizens for spying, torture, assassination because of these evil “laws.”

Liberty

The word liberty has quietly slipped out of conversation in American life, and it’s high time that we started talking about it again.

In his inauguration speech, President Trump spoke the words “nation” and “national” 14 times, but he only said “freedom” once, and liberty didn’t get a single mention.

Our leaders in Washington may pay occasional lip service to liberty, but neither the Democratic nor the Republican party is committed to preserving or furthering liberty. Washington has engaged us in a bipartisan war on terror, spied upon us, and taken away our earnings, right to due process, and free speech. Perhaps everyone has forgotten what liberty is all about.

Simply put, liberty means to exercise human rights in any way a person chooses as long as it does not infringe upon the rights of others. Liberty is important because it is the principle that free Western society as we know it is based upon.

Liberty gave birth to the human ingenuity that led to civilization, prosperity, security, the generation of personal wealth, and the sanctity of personal rights. Liberty empowers and protects us, and only liberty has the power to ward off oppression and tyranny.

Our country was established with the greatest ideals and respect for individual freedom ever known. But now we have a foreign policy of violent, military expansionism, uncontrollable debt, a monstrous bureaucracy that regulates our every move, and a complete disregard for privacy, private property, and stable currency. Each election cycle pushes us further and further into the jaws of tyranny. Will we turn and move in the direction of liberty or continue to slide further into authoritarianism?

Only a restoration of personal and societal liberty can restore our nation and turn back the tide of two party tyranny.
